Put on your “String of Pearls” and get “In the Mood” to dance the night away when the Milt Gerver Orchestra re-creates the sounds of the Big Band era on Friday evenings this summer, from
7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., on the boardwalk at Playland Park in Rye.
Against the backdrop of moonlight dancing across the waters, listen to the music made famous by immortal bandleaders like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey as the orchestra performs classic favorites like “Tuxedo Junction,” “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B,” “Take the A Train” and more. So, polish up your mambo, jitterbug, lindy and foxtrot and get ready to rhumba! As an added bonus, watch as fireworks explode over Long Island Sound during one of the park’s weekly displays, beginning at 9:15 p.m.
A regular summer favorite at Playland Park, the 15-piece Milt Gerver Orchestra features two vocalists. The band’s repertoire ranges from popular favorites from the Big Band era to the contemporary sounds of today’s disco and hot Latin sounds. The Milt Gerver Orchestra has performed throughout the tri-state area including Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut and the Hilton and Hyatt Hotels in New York City.
The Milt Gerver Orchestra will perform on Fridays, July 15, 22, 29 and August 5.
Admission to Playland and the Big Band performances is free. Parking is $5 on Friday evening, $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Park Pass or senior citizen identification card.
