Croton's Eric Knight and The Legend of Lassie
July 9, 2005The Croton Historical Society will present Greg Christie, writer, biographer, historian and the Winston Churchill Fellow of 2005, from North Yorkshire, United Kingdom, who will lecture on 'Croton's Eric Knight and on The Legend of Lassie'. The lecture will be held at Alexander Hamilton House on Van Wyck Street, on Monday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. RSVP (necessary) to the Historical Society before July 25, 271-4574 -- Monday mornings only.
Eric Knight (1897 - 1943) lived for a time on Finney Farm in Croton. He was the author of "Lassie Come Home," amongst many other books. On January 15, 1943, Major Eric Mowbray Knight was killed when a U.S. army plane crashed and exploded in the jungle of Surinmae.
