Italian Cultural Heritage Celebration

July 14, 2005

Celebrate all the great things that Italy has given the world, from its delicious food to its joyful music during the Italian Cultural Heritage Celebration, on Sunday, July 17, noon to 7 p.m., at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.

This free festival will showcase top Italian musicians and dancers, many of whom have performed on stages in the U.S.A. and Europe. Performers for the day include teen opera sensations, Joseph and Lauren Musemuco from Philadelphia. They are young aspiring singers who have sung at the Sergio Franchi Memorial Opera Concert in Connecticut, on PBS, in Carnegie Hall, and just recently at Donald Trump’s birthday party.

Fred “Flip” Lando, often referred to as “The Golden Voice of the Bronx,” will be singing Neapolitan Italian classics. Also performing will be renowned accordion player, Ezio Pellitteri. A graduate of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, he has played at various venues in Europe, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Walt Disney World in Florida. Other entertainment includes Mimi Romano’s Italian folk dancers of Westchester. Joe Fratto, a member of the Italian-American band Melodia, will emcee and perform during the event.

Everyone is sure to work up an appetite as the wonderful aromas of tasty Italian delicacies fill the air, including zeppole, sausage and peppers, calamari and meatballs, as well as refreshing Italian ices and more that will be for sale throughout the event.

A highlight of the festival will be a display of Italian vehicles, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Vespa scooters, Ducati motorcycles and many more.

There will crafts and novelty items on sale throughout the festival. There will also be Italian cultural exhibits, a variety of children's entertainment and a game of bocce for all to enjoy.

The event is sponsored by Westchester County Parks, the Antonio Meucci Lodge #213 (Order Sons of Italy).

Admission and parking are free. The festival will be held rain or shine. Festival-goers should bring blankets or lawn chairs because seating is informal.

The Kensico Dam Plaza is located at the northern end of the Bronx River Parkway in Valhalla.
