Six bands of young musicians from all over Westchester will vie for the grand prize when Playland Park in Rye hosts its second annual “Battle of the Bands” Tuesday, July 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the park’s Music Tower Theater.
The bands comprise young people ages 15 to 20 years of age that were selected from a competition of more than 30 entries. Judging will be done by a panel of music experts that will include popular metro area deejays, along with individuals from the local and professional music industry.
The winning band will receive a grand prize trophy, six hours of free recording time courtesy of Prime Time Studios, a professional recording studio, with a consultation by a music professional, and a $200 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music.
Winners will be invited back to perform on Playland’s Music Tower Theater in front of a live audience this fall.
Bands performing will be a mix of bands that are new to the competition, along with previous groups from past Battles. New entries include “Bellevue” from Yonkers, “Solar Tides” from Mamaroneck and “The Tragic” from Tuckahoe. Returning for another try at the title are “Climax Theory” from Rye, “Home” from Pelham Manor and the group “Your Mom” from Yonkers.
The “Battle of the Bands” is sponsored by the Westchester County Parks and the county’s STOP-DWI program, radio station 107.1 THE PEAK, Prime Time Studios in Yonkers and Sam Ash Music in White Plains.
Admission to Playland is free; parking is $5 on Tuesday.
