Big Bonus

July 17, 2005

Playland Amusement Park in Rye is now offering Westchester residents more rides for their money as part of new bonus point and discount programs featured every weekday throughout the season.

“Residents can visit Playland during slower weekday times and get more for their money. We have made it more economical for everyone to visit Playland as often as they would like,” said County Executive Andy Spano. “Playland continues to be Westchester’s ‘memory maker’ and we want residents to make their memories all season long.”

The park recently overhauled its ticket-sales system and now issues convenient Fun Cards as part of a new automated system that features “scan and go” simplicity. Bonus point and discount programs are as follows:

• The popular Westchester Appreciation Nights have returned and are scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This year for the first time Westchester Appreciation Nights will be held in both July and August, concluding on August 30. On these fun nights, the “cost” to ride each ride is reduced by one point, allowing all visitors to use their point cards to get on more rides. Plus, county residents who have a County Park Pass also receive 8 Bonus Points when purchasing a 36-point Fun Card when presenting their Park Pass on these evenings or any other non-promotional program times (maximum four offers per visit, season-long).

• Playland now also “serves” up an Early Rider Special available Wednesdays, Thursdays (except concert nights) and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. through September 2. During these times, riders will receive a minimum of 30% in Bonus Points on their Fun Cards. Those purchasing 24-point Fun Cards will receive 8 Bonus Points and those purchasing 36-point Fun Cards will receive 12 Bonus Points. Park Pass holders will receive a 60% increase of 20 points when purchasing at 36-point card. Maximum of four offers per visitor per day.

• Concerts return to Playland on Thursday evenings, August 4, 11, 25. On these evenings a Concert Series Special will be available from 8 p.m. until closing. The same discounts outlined for the Early Rider Special above will be offered to visitors. Concerts are Lifehouse on August 4, John Waite on August 11 and Bowling for Soup on August 25.

Playland Fun Cards can be purchased for the economical price of $20 for a 24-Point Fun Card and $28 for a 36-Point Fun Card. Rides require 2 to 4 points each.

Playland is owned and operated by Westchester County Parks. Playland Park is known as America’s first totally planned amusement park and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.

Playland is located in Rye, and can be reached via the New England Thruway (I-95), Playland Parkway exit 19. For more information, call 914-813-7010 or visit Playland at www.ryeplayland.org.
