Celebrate the 250th birthday of one of the most beloved composers of all time during “Happy Birthday Amadeus” – a salute to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – during final “Midsummer Music with the Westchester Philharmonic” concert Saturday, July 30, at Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial in Somers.
The evening’s program is a preview of the Philharmonic’s upcoming season and will feature the Overture to Cosi fan tutti and Flute Concerto in D, K.314 with Paul Lustig Dunkel.
Under the direction of Paul Lustig Dunkel, the Westchester Philharmonic is a nationally recognized professional orchestra that has served the county’s culturally diverse population and provided an artistic outlet for the area’s composers and performers for more than 20 years. Now in its 22nd year, the Westchester Philharmonic comprises the finest musicians from the greater New York area, and many have played since its debut in 1983.
The gates open at 5 p.m. for picnicking; the music begins at 6 p.m.
Tickets for “Midsummer Music with the Westchester Philharmonic” are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18 per event. Group tickets are available by calling the Westchester Philharmonic at (914) 682-3707 ext. 10. Somers residents receive a 20% discount on all tickets.
Seating at the park is informal and concert-goers should bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn. Refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the concert. No pets are allowed at the park.
Please note that parking is approximately one-third mile from the concert area. Shuttle bus transportation and parking for the disabled are available. Rest rooms are accessible to the disabled.
The “Midsummer Music with the Westchester Philharmonic” concert series is presented by the Westchester Philharmonic and Westchester County Parks. The series is sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Ginsburg Development Corporation, Northern Westchester Hospital and the Town of Somers.
Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, a Westchester County Park, is a 234-acre developing arboretum. It is located on Route 35 in Somers, and can be reached via I-684, exit 6. Head west off the exit; the park is four miles ahead on the left. Or, take the Taconic State Parkway to Route 202 exit, and head east on Route 202. Follow to Route 35 and turn left; the park is three miles ahead on the right.
