Recently, Westchester County funded an extensive renovation to the ballfields (slideshow) on the left-hand side of the road entering Croton Point Park. Subsequently, the County asked the Village of Croton-on-Hudson to enter into an intermunicipal agreement to manage both the baseball and football/soccer fields for the Fall season.
At the last regular Village Board meeting, held on August 15, 2005, a resolution was passed authorizing the Village to get a special permit from the County to manage and schedule all activites on the new fields from September to November of this year. Also included in the resolution was a provision allowing the Village to consider entering into another intermunicipal agreement with the County to manage the fields on a more permanent basis in the future.
During the meeting, Village Manager Richard Herbek, added that the Croton Harmon School District will agree to share 50% of management costs for use of the fields and that Susan Menz, superintendent of the Recreation and Parks Department will oversee those management responsibilities. Mr. Herbek also noted that both AYSO and Croton Little League have expressed interest in using the fields and that he felt the permit agreement would serve as a “community benefit”.
The Recreation and Parks Department is available to both residents and non-residents of Croton to schedule use determine said permit fees by calling 914-271-3006.
