Scary Halloween Fun at Playland

October 5, 2005

Halloween chills, spooky thrills and goose bumps are in store when the “Scared by the Sound” Haunted House welcomes visitors at Playland this October. The ghoulish season begins on Friday, October 7, and continues weekends and select weekdays during the month.

“Scared by the Sound” Haunted House includes an elaborate 10,000-plus square-foot “crypt” that includes dark, winding passageways and additional spine-tingling elements including a haunted art gallery and a mind-bending black hole vortex tunnel. At the end of the crypt, jittery visitors exit into a creepy cemetery filled with unexpected residents. The now legendary “live” actors who are seen throughout the haunted experiences add to the fun with scary greetings for everyone. Visitors will be treated and tricked with new surprises throughout the attraction.

For an additional $2, visitors can ride the Creepy Carousel, complete with haunting circus sounds and fog.

“Scared by the Sound” is presented by Dark Attractions Inc. and is accessed by walking through the Fountain Plaza entrance at the park. The attraction is sponsored in part by Blockbuster Video, McDonalds, Stew Leonard’s, Net Your Way Website Design and Hosting, and Signs by Con-tees.

Hours for Scared by the Sound during the month of October beginning October 7 are Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sundays 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday, October 31, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition to the regular shows, “Hardly Haunted Matinees” for children 12 years of age and under will be held on Saturdays and Sundays, October 22, 23, 29 and 30 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visits during the attraction’s evening hours are not recommended for children under 12.

Admission is $13 for adults, $9 for children under 12, and $5 for matinees. Call (914) 906-0818 for corporate and group sales. “Scared by the Sound” is held rain or shine and parking for the attraction is free.

Limited food and beverages will be available for sale each evening. With the exception of the carousel rides will not be operational. Playland is a Westchester County Park and is located in Rye, New York and can be reached via the New England Thruway (I-95), Playland Parkway exit 19.
