Leaf Pickup Schedule Set

October 25, 2005

The Croton-on-Hudson Department of Public Works will pick up loose leaves with vacuum trucks beginning the end of October, 2005. Leaves should be raked to the curb but not into the street, which is a violation of the law and more importantly a traffic safety hazard. The DPW will be vacuuming leaves during November and December. The weekly schedule of the roads to be vacuumed will be posted on the village website.

Beginning on November 28th, the DPW will commence with the final loose leaf pile cleanup going street by street. Once your street has been cleared of leaves after November 28th, the DPW will not vacuum leaves on your street again, any left over leaves must be bagged.

Bagged leaf collection

The DPW will conduct a bagged leaf pick-up on alternate weeks during the months of November, December and January (if necessary). Leaves may be packed into biodegradable paper bags only. Leaves in plastic bags will not be picked up. Leaves placed in trashcans or boxes will not be collected. Bagged leaves will not be picked up with the garbage. They will be collected on Monday or Wednesday (based upon the volume of leaves & available manpower) according to the schedule listed below. Bagged leaves (placed in biodegradable paper bags ONLY, NO PLASTIC) should be placed at the curb on the Sunday evening of the week as listed below.

Schedule

The bagged leaf pick-up will be as follows:

North of Maple Street (Route 129)

  • Weeks of October 30th, November 13th & 27th, December 11th & January 1st (if necessary)

South of Maple Street (Route 129)

  • Weeks of November 6th & 20th, December 4th & 18th & January 11th (if necessary)

There will be no bagged leaf pick-up the week of December 25 to 30, 2005

From the Village today

It was the intention of the Department of Public Works to list the streets the leaf vacuum trucks would be on next week, November 7th to 12th.

However since fall has decided to arrive in the Hudson Valley later than usual the majority of leaves are still on the trees.

The Department of Public Works will be randomly vacuuming leaves from those areas that have leaves out to be picked up.

Hopefully, by this time next week more leaves will have fallen and placed at the curb for pickup. If so we will begin to list the streets we will be on starting the week of Nov. 14th to 19th on the Village webpage next week. The list should be available by November 9th or 10th.
