The Giving Tree

November 6, 2005

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special this holiday season, how about a tree? The Friends of Westchester County Parks is offering an opportunity for you to give a gift for the holidays, recognize a special occasion or honor a friend or loved one by making contribution to the Friends of Parks Tree Trust and Memorial Benches Fund.

Contributions to this fund are specifically earmarked for the purchase and maintenance of trees and benches in all of the county parklands. The fund also provides a perpetual endowment for the benefit of the county’s forestry program.

Contributors choose where their dollars go by selecting one or more gift categories including a minimum $25 gift toward the maintenance endowment fund; $50 (Future Forests category) to plant a seedling; $400 (Adopt-a-Tree) to select a tree to receive special care, with an engraved plaque placed alongside; $1,000 (Memorial Tree) for a tree planted in the available park of the contributor’s choice with a plaque; or $1,500 for a Memorial Bench with a plaque placed in the park of the contributor’s choice.

All Tree Trust and Memorial Bench contributions are tax deductible and come with a certificate in the name of the person you choose, along with a card that describes how the gift will be put to use.

For information on the Tree Trust or to find out more about becoming a Friend of Westchester County Parks, call Ms. M.J. Wolff at (914) 864-7032 or log on to www.friendsofwestchesterparks.com.
