The Bear Mountain State Park Ice Rink is open for public skating sessions (see slideshow) through Sunday, March 6, 2006. Skaters can use the ice for timed sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 10:00 AM and 12 Noon, Fridays at 7:00 PM, and weekends at 10:00 AM, 12:00 Noon, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 8:00 PM (there is no 8:00 PM session on Sundays).
Skating fees are $4.00 per adult and $3.00 per child aged 5-12. Senior citizens and spectators are $2.00 each, while children aged 4 or under are free. Skate rentals are $4.00 per pair and skate sharpening is available for $5.00 per pair. Lockers are also available for rent. The skating lodge also has restrooms and a concession with hot and cold refreshments in addition to a bank of vending machines. Parking on weekends and holidays is $6.00 per car.
On December 2, 2005, a Figure Skating Show is scheduled from 6:45 to 7:45 PM, followed by a Fireworks display from 8:00 to 8:30 PM, with public skating sessions taking place at 4:30 and 8:30 PM.
The Bear Mountain Skating Rink is also available for parties, with a package that includes space in the Merry-Go-Round Pavillion, pizza & refreshments, unlimited rides on the indoor Merry-Go-Round during the party, and one (1) ice skating session per child. There is an eight (8) child minimum at a cost of $15.00 each plus parking of $6.00 per car. The rink is also available for private sessions for $165.00 per hour. Bear Mountain State Park is 45 miles north of New York City, in the Hudson Highlands (get directions). Facilities include playing fields, picnic groves, rowboat docks on Hessian Lake, swimming pool and bathhouse, nature trails, an ice-skating rink, basketball court, Trailside Museums and Zoo, Iona Island Estuarine Reserve and Bird Refuge, Perkins Tower, and the newly constructed Merry-Go-Round and pavilion.
