Sledding is the Point

December 12, 2005

Saturday afternoon, December 10, 2005 brought a break in the clouds from Friday’s storm, which left behind total accumulations of 6 to 9 inches of, well, really nice snow, for excellent sledding and tubing conditions around Croton-on-Hudson.

In addition to the New Croton Dam (see “A Snowy Croton Dam” from January 23, 2005), Croton Point Park offers a really spectacular and less steep approach to sledding, perfect for the entire family (view photogallery). Additionally, atop the sledding runs is a magnificent view of the Palisades and Hudson River, unlike any other around.

croton point is fun, but i like the dam. there’s small hills and big hills, for any age…and at croton point you won’t believe how many times i’ve been run-over and/or crashed into by PARENTS!! parents are people who are supposed to be responsible, not immature adults who ram into innocent children and laugh about as the child lies there in pain because they were just run over by a 45 year old who thinks he or she is still 5! And if you’re afraid of hitting trees at the bottom of the hill at the dam, there’s hay in front of it so it doesn’t hurt. it isn’t exactly a pleasure to smash your face into blocks of hay, but it’s better than smashing your face into a tree.

What a treasure Crotonblog. Thank you so much!

Those of us who love Croton should send these to everyone we know. The pictures are spectacular and should be shared with all to to celebrate the beauty and specialness of our hometown. That crisp, clear, deep blue sky over the pristine white snow and the great shots of kids in colorful snow clothes is a delight to see and something no amount of money could buy.

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us and reminding us of how lucky we are!
