Top county officials will usher in the New Year in the spirit of intergovernmental cooperation with a joint inaugural ceremony at 3 p.m. on January 1st at the Westchester County Center. County Executive Andy Spano, District Attorney-elect Janet DiFiore, County Clerk-elect Tim Idoni and Chairman Bill Ryan and the Westchester County Board of Legislators will take the oath of office in a joint ceremony. The public is invited to attend. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and parking is free.
Spano will be entering his third term as County Executive while Janet DiFiore and Tim Idoni are entering their first terms. Legislators are all returning incumbents, with the exception of William Burton, who will be replacing outgoing 9th District Legislator Richard Wishnie, and Suzanne Swanson, who is returning to represent the 3rd District, replacing outgoing Legislator Rob Astorino.
At the hour-long ceremony, which will be broadcast live on News 12, William O’Shaughnessy, President and CEO of Whitney Radio, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Francis A. Nicolai, Administrative Judge, 9th Judicial District, will swear in County Executive Spano and the Board of Legislators. Mount Vernon City Clerk Lisa Copeland will swear in District Attorney DiFiore and Westchester County Family Court Judge Kathie Davidson will swear in County Clerk Idoni.
A short video “One Government, One County,” which highlights county programs over the past eight years, will be shown. The video was produced for the inaugural by the county’s Communications Office. The event will also feature performances by the Mount Vernon Interfaith Community Choir and soloist Alessandra Parrotta, a 20-year-old student at the Manhattan School of Music.
