Croton Democrats to Hold Nominating Caucus

January 30, 2006

The Croton Democratic Party will be holding its nominating caucus for the upcoming Village election this evening, January 30, 2006 at 7:00 PM in the Ottinger meeting room of the Croton Free Library (map).

The Village Elections are set for March 21, 2006 and will decide who fills two open seats for Village Trustee, currently held by Charlie Kane (D), who seeks his second elected term and James Steinberg (R), who was defeated in his bid during the 2005 election but was appointed by current Mayor Dr. Gregory Schmidt to a one-year term. Also on the ballot this year is Republican Guy Adami’s seat for Village Justice.

I have just returned from the above noticed Democratic caucus and am more excited than I’ve been in years. It was just great to see so many new faces in the more than 150 70 or so who attended. And so many of them were relatively new to the village, in their 30’s, 40’s and early 50’s. I am so excited to see the newcomers, young parents of school age kids getting involved in their village government. Fresh new ideas are needed and the room was jam pack filled with an energy not seen in local politics in a long time.

The particulars of the caucus I will leave to the press releases. This is a simple congratulations to all who attended the caucus and made democracy work in this great little village. It’s also a plea for you to educate yourselves on the issues and to stay involved. This is our village and a great village it is made up of good, smart, nice people. We need to keep it that way and everyone’s input is needed.
