In spite of problems with power outages, the Croton Harmon Education Foundation’s (CHEF) Dine-A-Round fund raiser on January 21, 2006, was an electrifying night. Over 100 people started the evening off at the home of Lisa and Scott Penberthy for appetizers that were so outstanding it was hard to move on for dinner.

The appetizers were accompanied by the music of the CHHS Jazz Band including Dan McManus, Josh Brechner, Andy Sold, Devin O’Brien, Lana Kitcher, Hannah Rose, Becky Greenstein, Amy Cobb, and Allie Polubiec, under the direction of Mr. Ivelaw Carrington.

Participants moved on to ten homes for sit down dinners in groups of 10 to 12 prepared by the hosts. All reported fantastic meals, lively discussion and new friends made. Many thanks to these hosts: Susan Holden and Elizabeth Zieglmeier, Beth and Jonathan Weinstein, Don and Jenny Flood, Francine and Jeff Kadish, Sydney Blake and Norman Coker, Connie and Rob Derbabian, Renee and George Ivanoff, Mary Breslin and Peter Feldman, Olivia Sklar and Peter Powchik, Kathy and Steven Bluestone, and Ziporah Janowski and David Ettenberg.

Extravagant desserts were ready and waiting when everyone returned to Liza and Frank Migliorelli’s home. Dancing to the music of the Curtis Winchester Blues Band continued into the night.

The Dine-A-Round evening was a first for CHEF and was a huge success not only as a social event but as a fund raiser, adding over $10,000. toward advancing CHEF’s mission of supporting innovation and excellence in Croton Schools. President Sabina Barach was able to announce during the evening that CHEF has now topped the $200,000 mark in funding.

Many thanks to all who helped make this Dine-A-Round a big success. Looking ahead, CHEF’s big annual fund raiser, Under the Stars, will be held this year on June 3, in Senasqua Lodge at Croton Point Park. It promises to be another not-to-be-missed event.
