With 46 Days Until April 15...
For the 2004 tax year, Westchester County helped more than 230 people obtain income tax credits totaling almost $700,000 through the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program and a related state program.
To help determine your eligibility for this tax credit, Westchester County is providing free tax service at locations in White Plains and Yonkers. To find out more please call 2-1-1 or go to www.westchestergov.com/eitc
The EITC is a tax credit available to people with maximum household incomes of $37,263. Eligible people can receive a refund of up to $5,720 on their 2005 taxes. The amount a family gets varies depending on the number of children in the household and the amount of earnings. The EITC can supplement the wages of low and moderate-income earners and reduce taxes for those who qualify.
The IRS estimated that last year as many as 10,000 Westchester residents qualified for the EITC but didn’t fill out the necessary forms to get it. In addition, Westchester has a taxpayer’s Bill of Rights to protect all consumers from unscrupulous tax preparers. For further information, go to www.westchestergov.com.
