Croton GOP Surrogate Cries Foul Over Yard Signs and Political Flyers

March 9, 2006

Acting on behalf of Croton Republican candidates—Jim Steinberg, Joe Gonzalez and Guy Adami—GOP campaign surrogate Maria Cudequest is advising supporters to be watchful for missing yard signs and anonymous political flyers in her latest CCC1 email newsletter.

As is the custom every year, I once again ask that we show respect to those who have elected to place candidate signs on their property, IRRESPECTIVE OF PARTY. Many GOP signs were “removed” and thrown “aside” last night on Grand Street and elsewhere throughout the village. They have been found and put back. While this is no doubt the work of a very few zealots, let’s spread the word: Respect the process and property ownership boundaries as well…whether we like signs or not. The election is 3/21 and all signs will be down after that.

To those residents who have written about anonymous political flyers turning up in their mailboxes concerning Trustee Steinberg, Mayor Schmidt, residents and others, please bring these directly to the attention of the board member you are most comfortable with. And remember, if it isn’t signed, it really isn’t worth your time.

Maria Cudequest

No doubt those who believe anything Ms. Cudaquest says will believe this latest piece of innuendo. I’m surprised that no one has talked about the last year’s mysterious flyer, impuning a Democratic candidate, that appeared just before election day in mailboxes on North Highland. I’ve been told GOP chair DiFrancesco admitted at the time to not only printing it, but illegally distributing it (it’s illegal to place anything in a mail box except US mail). No complaint was made as no one wanted to be accused of attacking a “poor innocent high school student.” If I have my facts wrong I’m sure Mr. DiFrancesco will correct me.

Funny how someone convicted of vandalizing a neighbor’s car, has never reported on CCC1 (that’s supposed be “concerned” citizens) that last year a Democratic candidate had their car vandalized multiple times in the weeks before election. I know of at least one other Democratic official who has had his car vandalized at least four times.

Oh yes. All signs from both parties are intact in MY neighborhood.

After speaking with Lt. Detective of the Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department, he confirms that there have been NO reports made to police with regards to damaged/missing election-related yard signs or anonymous flyers being distributed to residents in any part of the village.

This kind of tactic is “vintage Cudequest” as she spits out her venom by rumor and innuendoe with no proof. whatsoever. She never submits copies of these alleged “anonymous political flyers”, never reports the theft or destruction of personal property and has never been able to identify the culprits. She’s guilty of planting the seed in people’s minds and then ducks for cover because she “fears retaliation”. After all she has had her house egged on numeroous occasions!

She spreads her vitriolic agenda of rumor and insinuation in the hope that it will catch the imagination of residents.

Thank God only a few people are sucked in by her deliberate attempts to create division and ill will in Croton.

i’m happy to report to ms. cudequest that in my section of croton no signs have been torn down from either party this year, last night, or in any other election we’ve had in the 12+ years i have lived in the village….EVER.

did she ever stop to think that maybe it’s just kids pulling a youthful prank, if indeed it is even true about the signs on Grand Street? afterall, there are two schools full of walking kids within a 1-2 minute walk of Grand Street.

and along with “mrs. smith” i have never received any “anonymous political flyers” ever!!??? but i know that talking about dubious campaign stunts is not a road she or the republican party should go down.

but then again these comments come from a person who has been caught with multiple commenter disorder right here on this blog and who was arrested right here in croton for vandalizing her neighbor’s property. talk about “respecting property ownership boundaries”…based on her history, she may need a lesson herself.

this may be a novel thought but if the republican administration really truly seeks an inclusive govt where citizens can voice concerns without fear of reprisal then perhaps they should consider shutting down ms. cudequest and her ccc1 spam list. it is always filled with nothing but partisan snickering and innuendo.

have a nice day.

Amazing! Every year, Ms. Cudaquest, erstwhile leader of the Cudaquest/Schmidt/Steinberg party, is the only person who brings up the issue of unsigned flyers and the only person who ever seems to “receive” them. It has long been my suspicion that this is all her delusion, and another way for her to fan the flames of partisan division.
