a picture of history:
this picture is looking west over Croton’s historic Bethel Chapel and Cemetery toward the Hudson River.
Bethel Chapel was believed to have been built in 1780 on land donated by Philip Van Cortlandt. The Chapel was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Chapel, owned and operated by the Asbury United Methodist Church, contains what is believed to be the oldest organ in the United States. Bethel Chapel is still used by Asbury on special occasions and during the late summer months. The Cemetery which houses graves dating from the 1700s is also still in use today.
