How Should Croton's Board Spend Your Tax Dollars?

April 3, 2006

Crotonblog: Letters to the Editor, Croton-on-Hudson, New York 10520
Elections are behind us and now the work begins. It starts with the proposed 2006-2007 budget. Decisions made now dictate what will and will not be accomplished in this next year. The Board faces some very difficult challenges and they need all our help in picking and choosing when, where and how to spend our tax dollars.

It behooves each and every one of us to go to the village website and look at the proposed budget that has been reproduced on line for all to see. It may seem overwhelming at first glance but clearly lays out the areas proposed for spending and how it might be balanced by revenue. If after going over it, any one of us has questions we can call or email our Mayor and board members for answers. I’m certain they will either give you the answers or refer you to the appropriate staff member.

This board has struggled with the numbers since receipt of the proposed budget and now need our comments to help them with their final choices of how best to spend our money. We depend upon them and they depend on us for our collective knowledge and wisdom. Remember, it serves no purpose whatsoever to bellyache or complain to each other. We need to participate in the process in order to make our voices heard.
