This summer the Croton-on-Hudson Bicycle/Pedestrian Planning Committee (BPC) initiated a master planning process for our Village related to bicycle and pedestrian safety, linkages and facilities.
Our preliminary mission statement is to improve the quality of life and safety of those who walk, ride bicycles and rely on non-motorized means of travel in the Village and its immediate environs. As committee members, we see tremendous opportunity to build on Crotons reputation as a well planned community through access improvements for commuters, shoppers, students, and biking enthusiasts, both for the health and welfare of our citizens, workers and visitors, and for the environmental and economic health of our Village.
We have received enthusiastic support from the Board of Trustees, the Mayor and local officials for the preparation over the course of the coming year of an advisory bicycle/pedestrian master plan using the input of local residents. We anticipate that the plan will have both short and long term recommendations. Your help is needed!
Our upcoming public outreach program is designed to get input from residents into specific goals and objectives, and to tap into local knowledge and insights. The first Public Outreach Meeting will be held at 8:00 PM at Village Hall on September 28, 2006. Your suggestions for improving bicycle and pedestrian access in Croton are sought as we assemble a database of issues and opportunities.
We want to hear from you regarding problematical locations and specific issues and opportunities related to sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, greenways, public education, school access, bike racks, bike parking facilities, bicycle or pedestrian hazards, and whatever other issues and recommendations you have.

Written suggestions can be mailed to Village Hall, c/o BPC Comments, One Van Wyck Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. If you would like to receive future e-mails regarding the effort, or mailings if possible, please send us your contact information.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this master plan process, and in helping us to formulate a strategic plan for the Villages sidewalks and roadways related to bicycles and pedestrians. Working together, we can achieve greater connectivity through safe access.
