Battle for First Place as Croton Football Hosts Westlake this Saturday

September 27, 2006

The 2006 Croton-Harmon High School varsity football team which has gotten off to an impressive 3-0 start this season will host undefeated league rival 3-0 Westlake this Saturday September 30 at home in a 1:30 PM showdown to decide who will sit atop the Section 1 C – League A standings.

The Tigers opened their season with emphatic home wins over Rye Neck (24-7) and Haldane (26-0) and a shutout on the road versus Magnus last week 14-0. Croton has been clicking on both sides of the football so far in this young season. The defense which has allowed the fewest points in the league so far with 7 in three games has given up a very stingy 157 average yards per game, also tops in the league

The Tigers offense is led by league passing leader sophomore Nick Mainiero (29-38, 391 yards, 4 TDs) and two of the top three receivers in the league in senior Ben Feldman (11 catches for 202 yards) and senior Ben Rudnick (11 catches for 119 yards).

This Saturday’s match-up will be an early test of what is to come in the playoffs for both Croton and Westlake. According to one highly respected national high school football scouting service Croton is a 2 point favorite this weekend over Westlake. So come out and enjoy a fall football Saturday right here in Croton.
