Local Constituents in Katonah Rally and Call for Sue Kelly to Concede Race

On Friday, November 10, 2006, more than 100 constituents of the 19th Congressional district gathered in downtown Katonah and held a press conference (photos) and called for Congresswoman Sue Kelly to concede to defeat in her unsuccessful bid for re-election on November 7th.

Although the vote count put challenger John Hall ahead by more than 3,500 ballots, Ms. Kelly has retained Westchester County Republican attorney John Ciampoli and said that she would “insist that every single vote be counted.”

After a call today to Ms. Kelly’s Washington, DC office, to ask about the possibility of a concession, an unpaid intern responded to questions by saying, “We are fully aware that we lost.” But later in the call and after consulting another staffer, the same intern said, “They haven’t finished counting all of the absentee ballots.”

Ms. Kelly can be reached at 202-225-5441 for additional questions or comments.
