The Croton Litterbug at Half Moon Bay

November 14, 2006

Crotonblog: Letters to the Editor, Croton-on-Hudson, New York 10520
I’ve just returned from a glorious walk along Elliott Way. It’s a very special place and we are privileged to have it along our waterfront.

Along with that privilege goes a responsibility to protect and maintain it’s spectacular and panoramic beauty.

The crumpled up lunch bag, coffee cup and paper napkins, carelessly thrown from a parked car in the parking lot by Half Moon Bay is disgrace enough. Added to that miserable act, the same driver (I assume) also emptied a disgustingly dirty ashtray along with the trash.

Whoever is guilty should be ashamed. We don’t see that kind of wanton disrespect for our environment often in today’s enlightened society. Even one offense is one offense too many!

I seriously hopet this person isn’t from Croton…but you never know.

I was driving down Riverside Avenue one beautiful summer morning and at the bus stop, I saw a guy finish his coffee then throw the cup on the ground in one fluid motion. I couldn’t believe it…I lost my cool.

I stopped and yelled “hey, where are you from?” He looked perplexed….so I said it again “Where do you live so I can throw trash in your neighborhood”…he looked embarassed and said “but it was empty…it was only coffee”. At that point, I called him a slob and drove away.

Hopefully he won’t do that again and maybe, just maybe he picked up his garbage.

I absolutely agree with you.

It’s my understanding that the John Hall signs have all been picked up by democratic volunteers. Since they were specifically purchased with recylable cardboard, I’ve been told they’ve been brought to the appropriate recycling centers.

That’s just as disgraceful as the politicians who just ran in the last election, winners and losers alike, not removing their campaign signs from the streets. If they’re not picked up 1 week from election day they should be fined - substantially!
