Please Help Us Thank the Ronald McDonald House

I know we all receive many requests from charities throughout the course of the year. This is a personal request on behalf of a charity that helped our family this year—the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County.

Our third child, Mikayla, surprised us by being born 2 months early while we were far away from home in Orange County, CA. As you can imagine, it was a stressful time with her in intensive care for 2.5 months. We were worried about Mikayla, while trying to take care of our two older kids and balance the rest of life.

Although it was difficult for us at times, it was nothing compared to the turmoil other families were going through with children who had serious injuries, cancer, or brain tumors.

We couldn’t have done it without the help of the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County. The House gave us and the other families something that a couch in the hospital or hotel room couldn’t offer—home and family away from home. We had a room of our own, but we were able to share the daily ups and downs with families from around the world, from different economic backgrounds, who were in the same boat as us. We shared a kitchen to cook meals and our other kids had a place to run around and play. The well organized staff kept volunteers coming to help cook meals and provide activities for the kids. All this was within a 7 minute walk to the hospital so we could take turns visiting Mikayla. We didn’t realize until later how helpful that homey environment was.

By the grace of God, Mikayla’s doing great now and so is the rest of the family. We’ve seen first hand the important work that the Ronald McDonald House does and realized that it could happen to any of us, regardless of geography or economics.

We owe the house a debt of gratitude. On January 7th, Anil is running a Half Marathon and the rest of the family is attempting a 5K to raise money for the House in Orange County, CA.

We’re asking you - our friends and community to help us by sponsoring us and donating to the House. Although many people think that the house is funded by McDonalds corporation, each house has to independently raise all of its operating funds through private donations like ours.

Your help will make a difference for a family with a child in the hospital. We know from experience. Please forward this info to anyone who might be interested. Thank you so much for your help. We wish you all the best for a wonderful New Year!

Best wishes,

The Thomas Family—Anil, Waikuen, Raina, Dylan, and baby Mikayla
