Entergy's Indian Point Nuclear Plant to Test New Emergency Alert Sirens Thursday
February 14, 2007According to local officials, there will be two tests of the new Emergency Alert System Sirens in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange Counties on Thursday, February 15, 2007 between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM.
Croton-on-Hudson residents should be aware that the new sirens, recently installed by Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant owner Entergy Nuclear Northeast, do NOT sound like the older versions, which lasted four minutes and oscillated in volume as the siren beacon rotated 360 degrees. Emergency officials will continue to use the older siren system to alert the public during an actual emergency at the plants until the new system is fully completed. Additionally, WHUD Radio (100.7 FM) will test their Emergency Alert System immediately after each siren test.
There is no action required by the public in response to the February 15, 2007, siren tests. This is only a test.
