Prostitution should be legalized so we can regulate it for public safety and we can increase the non-residential tax base by getting the prostitutes to pay taxes. Here is how this situation can be different with this type of a situation: 1) We can prohibit this advertising 2) We can administer state STD tests and mandatory condom use. 60% of prostitutes in Newark have HIV 3) We can collect the tax revenues and put its money toward sex education 4) We can administer drug testing for prostitutes to make sure that they aren’t doing the profession for the drug money 5) Pimps would cease to exist 6) If Prostitutes get raped, the rapes will get reported unlike now where they are not reported due to fear of the prostitute getting in trouble 7) We can turn 1A Croton Point Avenue into a red light district because after all people would do anything to get rid of it. 8) Street Prostitutes would cease to exist because johns would a legal option

Overall I got a lot of more reasons for my case but there are some points I want to counter on. Many say that Prostitution is degrading towards women but my take on it is that if someone does it in their own freewill why we should tell them what is right and what is wrong. Whether legal or illegal people are still going to whore themselves and if it’s legal the working conditions would not be as degrading. The Prostitutes can unionize, pay taxes, work without a pimp, and be disease free. Kevin W. Davis
