Local Beers to be Featured at Upcoming CHEF Fundraiser

April 14, 2008

Scott Vaccaro of Captain Lawrence Brewery in Pleasantville, will be serving up two of his most popular brews at the upcoming Under the Stars Dinner, Dance, and Auction, on May 10th at the Senasqua Lodge in Croton Point Park. Captain Lawrence Brewery opened its doors in January 2006 in Pleasantville, NY and they have been supporting the community ever since. Scott Vaccaro, owner and brewer, said, “I will be serving our Freshchester Pale Ale and our Liquid Gold. I am looking forward to meeting all the wonderful people that will be supporting the Croton-Harmon schools at Under the Stars.” If you want to sample Captain Lawrence Beers before Under the Stars, please visit their website for tasting room and sales office hours.

Scott is not the only local serving at UTS. Evan Lobel, of Lobel’s of New York, will be serving up his delectable beef. Croton locals, Jeff and Fran Kadish of Main Street Restaurant Partners, owners of Django, Calle Ocho, and Rain, will be at UTS. And, Executive Chef and Culinary Director, Neil Ferguson of Monteverde, will be sharing wonderful locally grown food. Here is a chance to really enjoy a wonderful evening of food, wine, and beer.

Westchester’s hottest DJ, Curt Love, from the Curtis Winchester Band, will be providing music for the evening. Put on your dancing shoes and come out and dance in support of the Croton-Harmon schools.

As part of this year’s Under the Stars there will be a raffle to win the new MacBook Air (1.6 GHZ plus Superdrive) and iphone (16GB), worth over $2,500. Raffle tickets are being sold around town for $20/ticket, four raffle tickets for $60, and eight raffle tickets for $100. Next week (April 14th) raffle tickets will be available at Hudson View Cleaners, Grouchy Gabes, and Wondrous Things. Both event and raffle tickets can also be purchased at the Croton Harmon Education Foundation website.

This year’s Under the Stars Silent Auction is shaping up to be very exciting, with chances to win seats at the BCBG Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week; a summer wine tasting; amazing Giants tickets; a year worth of books; weekends away; nights out; and more.

CHEF reports that tickets are selling quickly for this year’s Under the Stars Dinner, Dance, and Auction. UTS is on Saturday May 10th. The evening will start with a wine tasting at 5:30pm followed by the Dinner, Dance, and Auction at 6:30pm. In response to many requests from the community, Under the Stars is returning to the Senasqua Lodge, at Croton Point Park.

If you are interested in volunteering at Under the Stars, please contact Susannah Johnston at sjohnstn AT aol DOT com. And as always, if you have a program idea—please share it with CHEF. Applications can be filled out by teachers or parents. Applications for the next grant cycle will be due May 1, 2008, with grants awarded June 30.

The Croton-Harmon Education Foundation has been in existence for over eight years. Through the generous support of the Croton community, CHEF has provided over $367,000 for a variety of initiatives, many of which give students unique educational experiences that go beyond the scope of traditional classroom learning.
