Yes, this has been a problem for quite some time. It used to be much worse but it still needs improving. I’ve been complaining ever since I moved to Croton seven years ago and they know me quite well at Metro North. One of their excuses is that “I’m the only one complaining”. I know I’m not the only one noticing but I am one of the few to consistently open my mouth and complain to the MTA. You can lodge a complaint here:

Click on email and fill out a form. I usually include the email addresses of two of the trustees (there’s only room enough for two plus your own). You’ll get a perfunctory response but at least I won’t be the only one writing.

The problems seem to come from the GE locomotives they are using along with the fact that the yard is much busier now that they have consolidated operations. I’m hoping that the construction work they are doing in the yard will ultimately quiet things.

You have to remember Croton used to be a company town (Harmon yard). Not anymore and it will take more pressure from our elected officials (both local and state) to truly bring about change.

I was walking my dog up on the aqueduct and was amazed at how loud the trains idling was. This has been an issue in the village before and I think engineers and railroad employees have been fined for violating the noise ordinance. Anyone?……On this note….I know that it’s great for the community, but is the volume of the music coming from Senasqua on the Friday night concerts legal. There is a noise ordinance. It is just way too loud. I am not a fan of country rock, much less covers of country rock played by bar bands. It’s a great event for people that want to go but the rest of the village shouldn’t have to hear it if they choose not to. In my house with the windows closed it was still too loud. I’m sure it’s a wonderful way to relax after a long work week but I too want to relax and it’s difficult with “Sweet Home Alabama” blaring across town…..
