1:50 PM: There was a report from an en employee at Croton Country Gardens on Albany Post Road that a passing vehicle had hit and subsequently damaged their split-rail fence. The matter is under investigation.

4:28 PM: There was a report from an employee at Hudson View Automotive that a passing vehicle had sideswiped a parked car in their lot. The vehicle, a grey Chevrolet van, fled the scene while the matter is under investigation.

February 20

3:37 PM: Croton firefighters responded to a report of smoke in a residence on Cleveland Drive. Shortly after arrival, responders determined that the cause of the smoke was from a malfunctioning oil burner.

4:30 PM: There was a report from a resident of Old Post Road North that approximately $400.00 worth of auto parts was stolen from his car while it was parked in his driveway. The matter is under investigation.

6:30 PM: There was a report from a woman residing on Franklin Avenue about an unidentified man who was walking on her roof. Patrol responded to the scene but was unable to locate the man, described as wearing dark pants and a dark coat weighing approximately 150 pounds. The matter is under investigation.

9:24 PM: There was a report from a resident of Ossining that while his car was parked in section J at the Croton Harmon train station, his car was damaged. The matter is under investigation.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of February 10th

5:13 PM: There was a report from a passerby of a man who was attempting to pry open a door to a car parked on Grand Street. Patrol responded to the scene and determined that the man was the owner of the car and was trying to open a car door that was stuck because the locks were frozen.

February 13

11:19 AM: Croton Fire Department responded to a call for mutual aid for a structure fire at the Colonial Terrace catering facility, located on Oregon Road in Cortlandt Manor.

11:35 PM: A 35-year-old male resident of Peekskill was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument at the Croton Police HQ while attempting to recover an impounded vehicle which was part of a previous investigation. The man was subsequently released after posting $400.00 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of February 3rd

6:38 PM: There was a report from an employee at the Hudson National Golf Club that sometime overnight, someone drove a vehicle on to a putting green causing damage. The matter is under investigation.

February 6

12:54 PM: Croton firefighters responded to a report of a burning odor in a home on Quaker Ridge Road. Shortly after arriving on the scene, responders determined that the cause was a faulty heating system.

5:14 PM: Officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle traveling on Route 9 North. Upon investigation, the driver, a 28-year-old female resident of Peekskill, with driving with an invalid license and criminal impersonation. The woman was taken to police HQ where she was released on bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of January 28th

8:50 AM: There was a report from a resident of Wells Avenue that sometime with the past several days, jewelry valued in the thousands, was stolen from his home. In the course of the investigation, police found no evidence of forced entry while the matter remains under investigation.

January 31

7:55 AM: Croton detectives arrested a 16-year-old male resident of Cortlandt manor in connection with a burglary at a home on Wells Avenue which was reported to police on January 30, 2008. The youth was charged with Grand Larceny and remanded to the Westchester County jail in lieu of $7,500 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court. Additionally, police report that most of the stolen jewelry was recovered and that the suspect had previously worked for the homeowner.

9:14 PM: Patrol responded to a report from a woman who had inadvertently locked her young child inside her car while it was running. Shortly after arriving on the scene, police gained entry to the vehicle.

January 22

1:37 PM: Officer on patrol reported the a light post located in Dobbs Park was knocked down. The matter is under investigation.

January 23

5:58 AM: Croton firefighters were dispatched to to provide mutual aid for a fire at Melrose Lumber, located on Croton Avenue in Ossining.

10:45 AM: There was a report from a resident of Croton that while his car was parked on South Riverside Avenue, someone stole his train station parking pass. The matter is under investigation.

9:25 AM: There was a report from an employee at Swanson’s Florist on Old Post Road South about a window that was broken sometime overnight. The matter is under investigation.

8:15 PM: There was a report of a possible larceny of money from a financial account belonging to a resident at Sky View nursing home. The matter is under investigation.

January 17

6:34 PM: There was a report from a resident of Bari Manor on Old Post Road South that someone had recently stoled copper plumbing supplies from his garage. The matter is under investigation.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of January 7th

2:20 PM: There was a report from a resident that someone had stolen a garbage can located in front of his house. The matter is under investigation.

3:41 PM: There was a report from a woman who resides in the Van Wyck apartments on Grand Street that sometime during the day someone entered her apartment and subsequently stole jewelry, digital cameras, cash and other personal items. Upon investigation, Croton detectives found no evidence of a forced entry indicating that the suspect-at-large may have used a key to open the front door. The matter is under investigation.

January 10

There were three separate reports of graffiti having been applied to a wall at the Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School, a garage door at the Van Wyck apartments on Grand Street and on a garage door at Holy Name of Mary church on Albany Post Road. The matters are under investigation.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of December 31st

4:38 PM: There was a report from a 17-year-old male resident of Croton that he was bitten by a leashed dog at around 3:30 PM while jogging in the vicinity of Bungalow Road and South Riverside Avenue. Patrol responded to the scene and was unable to located the dog, as described as a boxer mix, or the woman walking it. Police are asking the public to call 914-271-5177 with any information to help locate the dog and determine if it is fully vaccinated. Otherwise, the matter remains under investigation.

6:18 PM: Officer on patrol reported that grafitti had recently been applied to playground equipment at Dobbs Park. The matter is under investigation.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of December 17th

5:42 PM: There was a report from a resident of Half Moon Bay about an odor of natural gas in the area. Patrol and Croton Department responded to the scene to confirm the report. Subsequently, Con Edison was summoned to the area to fix an apparent leak.

December 19

11:49 AM: There was a report from a resident of Half Moon Bay that some jewelry was missing from here home. The matter is under investigation.

December 21

3:44 AM: There was a report from MTA Police that a mailbox in front of the Croton Harmon train station was emanating smoke. Patrol and Croton firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished a small fire. The burned mail inside was subsequently turned over to the U.S. Postal Service for inspection. The matter is under investigation.

Croton Police Blotter - Week of December 10th

December 15

7:35 AM: There was a report from an employee of Grouchy Gabe’s Grill on Old Post Road South that decorations outside of the store were recently damaged. The matter is under investigation.

December 16

1:35 AM: There was a report from a resident of Quaker Hill Drive about an odor of smoke in her home. Within five minutes of the call for help, the chief of the Croton Fire Department arrived on the scene to find that the woman had evacuated her home with three children and pulled their vehicle out of the garage and away from the house, where the flames were escaping out of a living room window. Within minutes, fire spread throughout the structure and caused the second floor to collapse on the first floor and the first floor to collapse to the basement. Croton firefighters, assisted by tanker trucks from Continental Village, Mostrose and Yorktown, arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, despite the hazardous sleet-covered road conditions. The fire, that may have originated in the basement of the home, was under control at 5:00 AM. No injuries were reported by officials at the scene, while the family sought refuge from their neighbors.
