9:54 AM: The Senasqua Park harbormaster reported a Yamaha 8 horsepower outboard motor was stolen—that was worth about $2,500.

2:25 PM: There was a report of a light-skinned black female using a fraudulent check while purchasing close to $600.00 worth of items at the CVS in the Van Wyck Shopping Plaza. When police arrived on the scene, they were told the woman may have left the area in a brown-colored vehicle.
6:30 PM: A Scenic Drive resident reported that while her 2007 Honda vehicle was parked in the Van Wyck Shopping Plaza it was struck by an elderly man incurring minor damages. Police were able to locate the 80-year-old driver who resides on Eklof Court who had not realized he had hit her vehicle.

11:14 AM: There was a report from a neighboring resident about a loud beeping noise in the area around Veterans Corner. The responding officer later determined that the noise, a malfunctioning deer repellent system, originated from a home on Old Post Road South.

3:01 PM: There was a report by a passer-by about finding a full-bottle of prescription drugs on Elm Street. Patrol responded to the scene and took the bottle back to police HQ where it would be secured.

11:09 AM: There was a report of a disorderly woman in the area of Old Post Road. Patrol responded to the area and found a 47-year-old female resident of Manhattan who failed to obey police instructions by continuing to walk in the street. After police determined that the woman was intoxicated, she was taken from the scene and later remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of posting $5,000 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.
9:55 PM: Patrol responded to a report of breaking glass in the area of Vassallo Park. Upon arrival, police questioned two female residents of Croton, aged 14- and 16-years-old, about the report. Subsequently, police took both girls into custody after determining that the older girl had consumed alcohol and was in possession of marijuana. Later, the pair was released to their parents.
10:45 PM: There was a report of a gas odor at a residence on King Street. Patrol and Croton fire department responded to the scene and later determined that the odor was coming from a leaking propane tank in the backyard.

4:41 PM: Officers aboard the police boat patrolling the Croton River apprehended three youths, aged 14- to 16-years-old from Croton and Ossining, after they were spotted jumping from a cliff on private property into the Croton River off Nordica Drive. Two of the boys were later released to their parents while the 16-year-old youth was charged with trespass. He too was later released to his parents pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

2:44 PM: Officer on patrol pulled over a speeding vehicle on North Riverside Avenue and subsequently charged the driver, a 25-year-old male resident of East Greenbush, NY, with driving with a suspended license and criminal impersonation, both misdemeanors. The man was later released after posting $250.00 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.
3:02 PM: Croton fire department responded to multiple reports of a fire next to Croton Hardware on North Riverside Avenue. Responders subsequently extinguished the small fire that originated in a storage area.

7:56 AM: Croton detectives charged a 32-year-old male resident of Shrub Oak with second-degree Burglary, a felony and Criminal Contempt of a Court Order in connection with the burglary of a Brook Street residence on April 20. The man was taken into police custody and later released after posting $1000.00 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.
12:01 PM: Police assisted the dog warden in apprehending two loose dogs running free on the grounds of Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School. The dog’s owner was issued a ticket for violating village code and is due in village court for an upcoming appearance to answer to the summons.
12:09 PM: There was a report from an employee of the Croton Community Nursery School that a two-foot statue of the Virgin Mary was found on school grounds. The statue remains in custody of the police until its rightful owner makes a claim to it.

1:44 PM: Police were called in reponse to a report of a dispute with a driver of a Bee-line bus at the corner of Old Post Road and Maple Street. When police officer arrived at the scene, the matter was settled.

The woman was charged with Criminal Contempt in the first degree of violating an order of protection granted to a resident of Grand Street, and later released after posting $500.00 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

12:03 AM: Croton police and firefighters responded to a report that there was smoke in a multi-family residence located on Brook Street. Shortly after arrival on the scene, responders evacuated the building and subsequently determined that a faulty furnace was the source of the smoke.
3:54 AM: Officer on patrol reported that a store window to J&J’s Sandwich Shop on Albany Post Road was broken. After a subsequent investigation, police reported that in an additional to the damage to the store, $100.00 was taken from inside the premises. The matter is under further investigation.
9:12 AM: There was a report from a neighboring resident about a suspicious car that was circling in the area of Van Wyck Street near the Croton Community Nursery School. Patrol responded to the scene and determined that the driver, a 23-year-old male resident of Mount Kisco, of the car was awaiting a friend inside the Municipal Building but did have an invalid driver’s license. The man was later charged with driving without a valid license and released on $100.00 bail pending an upcoming appearance in village court.
3:36 PM: There was a report from a resident of Arrowcrest Drive that someone broke into their house through the front door and subsequently stole some cash, jewelry and computer equipment. The matter is under investigation.

4:38 PM: There was a report from a 17-year-old male resident of Croton that he was bitten by a leashed dog at around 3:30 PM while jogging in the vicinity of Bungalow Road and South Riverside Avenue. Patrol responded to the scene and was unable to located the dog, as described as a boxer mix, or the woman walking it. Police are asking the public to call 914-271-5177 with any information to help locate the dog and determine if it is fully vaccinated. Otherwise, the matter remains under investigation.

7:35 AM: There was a report from an employee of Grouchy Gabe’s Grill on Old Post Road South that decorations outside of the store were recently damaged. The matter is under investigation.
December 16
1:35 AM: There was a report from a resident of Quaker Hill Drive about an odor of smoke in her home. Within five minutes of the call for help, the chief of the Croton Fire Department arrived on the scene to find that the woman had evacuated her home with three children and pulled their vehicle out of the garage and away from the house, where the flames were escaping out of a living room window. Within minutes, fire spread throughout the structure and caused the second floor to collapse on the first floor and the first floor to collapse to the basement. Croton firefighters, assisted by tanker trucks from Continental Village, Mostrose and Yorktown, arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, despite the hazardous sleet-covered road conditions. The fire, that may have originated in the basement of the home, was under control at 5:00 AM. No injuries were reported by officials at the scene, while the family sought refuge from their neighbors.

11:13 PM: There was a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Grand Street. Patrol responded to the scene and subsequently charged one of the residents, a 25-year-old man with Assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. The man was taken to the Peekskill jail where he remained until the next day. After posting $3000.00 bail, he was released pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

2:43 PM: Officer on patrol arrested five individuals for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana after questioning them while the group was sitting in a parked car on Benedict Boulevard. All of the individuals, including three 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, were taken to Police HQ. Additionally, one of the the 16-year-old was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, a misdemeanor. Subsequently, each of the persons was released to their parents pending an upcoming appearance in village court.

9:33 AM: Croton police and firefighters were summoned to Bagels on Hudson in the Croton Commons shopping center on Maple Street due to a report of smoke in the store. Subsequently, the responders identified the source of smoke and proceeded to ventilate the space.

All of the criminal counts against the youth are in connection with a string of burglaries to local businesses and thefts at Croton Harmon High School that were reported to police over the past several weeks, which were part of an ongoing investigation. After his arraignment, the youth was subsequently released on $4,000 bail pending an upcoming appearance in court.

11:35 AM: There was a report of a power failure in the area around the intersection of South Riverside Avenue and Benedict Boulevard. Patrol responded to the scene to confirm and subsequently reported that power was restored within 30 minutes.

4:30 PM: Police reponded to a report of an oversized tractor trailer was stuck under the Warren Road overpass on Route 9 North. Upon arrival to the scene police closed the right-hand lane thus causing significant traffic delays. There were several separate reports from residents on Truesdale Drive, Morningside Drive and Sunset Drive that approximately nine vehicles that were left unlocked and parked on the street were entered. Police report minor thefts in some of the reported occurrences. The matter is under investigation.
9:45 AM: Croton detectives arrested a 31-year-old male resident of Peekskill for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, cocaine, a felony, on a warrant at the Westchester County Jail. The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation. The man was transported to Croton where he appeared in front of the judge and was subsequently remanded back to jail. The man is due in village court on May 30, 2007 at 9:30 AM.
3:15 PM: Croton police received approximately 80 calls from residents in the village regarding the storm that swept through the area causing down trees, downed wires and damage to property.

There was a report of a motorcycle accident on Route 9 North near the Montrose exit. Patrol and Croton Fire Department responded to the scene and found the driver, a 35-year-old resident of White Plains, had died as a result of an accident with a car and the guardrail. 2:43 PM: Detectives arrested a 22-year-old male resident of Croton for two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Cocaine, a felony. The man was arrested, brought to Police HQ, appeared before the judge and bail was set at $15,000. Unable to post the bail, the man was transported to the Westchester County jail. On April 11, 2007 the man returned to Village Court where bail was set to $3,000. After posting bail, the man was released and is due in court at a later date. This arrest was the result of a five-month investigation by Croton Detectives. More arrests are expected.

9:55 AM: There was a report of smoke coming from the pump house on Arrowcrest Drive. Patrol, Croton Fire department and Water Department responded to the scene to investigate the call.

11:45 AM: There were several reports from patrons at the Croton Exxon Station that the fire extinguisher system was accidentally set off. Patrol, Fire Department and EMTs responded to the scene and found that there were several people who had been covered in a fire retardant made from a white powder substance. Several persons complained of respiratory distress while one individual was transferred to Phelps Memorial Hospital for treatment. The cause of the false activation has not yet been determined.
6:55 PM: There was a resident of Croton reported that after locking his bicycle to a post in the morning, when he returned it was stolen. The matter is under investigation.

9:45 AM: Detectives arrested a 44-year-old female resident of Ossining for petty larceny of a wallet stolen from Skyview Nursing Home (see the May 8, 2006 blotter). 8:49 AM: Detectives arrested a 31-year-old Ossining male for the robbery of the Exxon station on December 20, 2005 on an arrest warrant. The individual was arrested at the Westchester County Jail where he was being held on another charge. The man was brought back to Croton Police HQ, where he was processed and arraigned. Bail was set by the judge at $10,000 and the individual was later returned to the Westchester County Jail.

6:00 PM: An alarm company reported an activated alarm at as residence on Glengary Road. Patrol and Fire Department responded and determined that the alarm activation was caused by smoke from a frying pan.
11:30 PM: There was a report of an assault at a residence on Palmer Avenue. Upon investigation, detectives later arrested (November 17, 2005 at 4:08 AM) a 32-year-old male of Palmer Avenue for assault 2nd degree, a felony, for causing a physical injury, a stab wound, from a knife, to the hand of a 27-year-old female resident of Peekskill. After the investigation, the assault victim sought medical treatment on her own. The attacker was held for arraignment by the judge, who set bail at $10,000. The Croton-on-Hudson man was remanded to the Westchester County Jail and is due back in Village court on November 23, 2005 at 9:30 AM.

12:43 PM: There was a report from a contractor who was working at the intersection of South Riverside Avenue and Oneida Avenue that he broke the gas main. Patrol and Fire Department responded and shut off gas, evacuated the immediate area then shut down the road between Bungalow Road and Benedict Blvd. Con Edison repaired the gas main without incident or injury.
8:19 PM: There was a report from a resident on Arlington Avenue about youths in the area ringing doorbells and then running away. Patrols responded and were unable to locate any of the youths in question.
9:27 PM: There was a report from a resident on Benedict Boulevard about a group of youths loitering on the road and obstructing traffic. Patrol responded and cleared the area with out incident.

9:06 PM: Patrol stopped a vehicle traveling on Route 9 South for vehicle and traffic violations. Upon investigation, officer found the driver to be in Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, violation. The driver’s car was impounded, he was brought to police headquarters, where he was later released and is due in Village Court on October 5, 2005 at 9:30 AM
9:10 PM: A resident of Batten Road reported what he thought was a rifle shot in the area of Daley Drive. Patrol responded and no evidence of a gun shot.
10:12 PM: The was a report from a resident from Half Moon Bay about what he thought was a rifle shot. Patrol and Westchester County police responded and no evidence of a gun shot.

5:54 PM: There was a report from the Goodwill Industries on South Riverside Avenue of a person shoplifting in the store. Patrol responded and arrested a 40-year-old Mount Vernon resident with Petty Larceny. The man was brought to police headquarters, released on $500.00 bail and is due in Village Court on September 28, 2005 at 9:30 AM.

7:36 PM: There was a report from a resident in the Van Wyck apartments on Grand Street about a gas leak in the stove. Patrol, Fire Department and the building superintendent responded and turned off the gas without incident.

10:56 AM: There was a report from a resident on Cleveland Drive of a burning smell coming from her basement. Patrol and Fire Department responded, determined that a light ballast was the cause and disconnected the light without incident.
3:43 PM: There was a report from a resident of Hastings Avenue that while his daughter and friends were walking home from PVC, a resident of Olcott Avenue, was yelling at them near the intersection of Olcott Avenue and Maple Avenue. The caller went to Olcott to speak to the person in question and subsequently followed the individual to the Croton Harmon West Yards where Patrol responded. Police determined that the person in question was apparently yelling at the girls because they were touching a freshly painted white line on the road. Patrol spoke to everyone involved, advising them of proper action to take in the future, without further incident.

5:34 PM: There was a call from an employee at Hudson National Golf Club about a hiker on the course who would not leave the property as requested. Patrols responded and was unable to locate the person in question.

7:02 AM: There was a report from a resident of Observatory Drive about a sick skunk near her sidewalk. Patrol responded to destroy and dispose of the animal without any stink.
1:22 PM: There was a call from a bus dispatcher at a private bus company, Miles Square, reporting that one of their drivers was driving on Route 9 North, and called in to report that another driver had displayed a knife as they passed the bus. Patrol responded and was unable to locate the car in question.

8:05 AM: There was a report of a burglary at the clubhouse at Halfmoon Bay. Suspects entered the facility through the gym and damaged the property by leaving graffiti and having stolen some weight lifting equipment. The matter is under investigation.

2:36 AM: A tree limb was blocking the roadway on Mt. Airy Road. Patrol responded and cleared the road without incident.
10:57 AM: There was a report of a tree and wire down Old Post Road North and Brook Street. Patrol responded and called DPW, who responded to clear the roadway.
5:16 PM: There was a report from County Fire Control Department at Croton Point Park about a dumpster fire in the campground area. Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire without incident.

10:16 AM: A fire alarm was activated at the Metropolitan Transit Authority repair shop, in Harmon. Fire Department responded to provide assistance and determined that the alarm was set off because of low water pressure in the building.
9:14 PM: There was a report from a resident of Truedale Drive about a gas odor in the house. Patrol and Fire Department responded and ventilated the home as the gas from the stove had been escaping for 20 about minutes.

4:20 PM: The park ranger reported a disorderly group near Mayo’s Landing and requested that the group leave the area without incident.
4:25 PM: There was a report of a brush fire near the west yard area of the Metro North property. Patrols and Fire Department responded and discovered that Metro North personnel had been cutting some equipment, which caused the fire. Fire Department assisted in safely extinguishing the burning materials.

9:47 AM: There were several reports of a ladder in the roadway on Route 9 North near Croton Point Avenue. Patrol responded, located the owner of the ladder, assisted in moving the ladder to the side of roadway and later assisted owner in securing ladder to said vehicle.
2:00 PM: A resident of Nordica Drive reported a stolen garden hose and criminal mischief to the sidewalk in front of the residence. Patrol responded to confirm theft and damage. The matter is under investigation.
3:27 PM: There was a report of an odor of gas in the area of Hastings Avenue. Fire Department responded and safeguarded the area until Con Edison arrived to confirm that no gas was found to be leaking.

9:16 AM: There was a report of a gas odor in the vicinity of Municipal Place. Fire Department and Patrol responded but could not confirm any type of leak.
10:15 AM: There was a report of debris in roadway on Route 9 near the Warren Road overpass. Patrol responded, moved debris to side and contacted the New York State Department of Transportation who removed the debris from the area.
2:43 PM: There was a report of disorderly male shouting and screaming obscenities at the Croton Harmon train station. Patrols responded and located party involved and detained him until MTA police arrived who took the individual into custody.

7:45 AM: There was a report of suspicious vehicle on parked Albany Post Road. Patrol responded and found that the car in question was no longer in the area.
10:20 AM: An employee of Shop Rite on South Riverside Avenue reported that her purse was stolen from inside the store. The matter is under investigation.
5:28 PM: There was a report from a resident of Nordica Drive of fireworks being used. Patrol responded and found the youths in question who were on the Ossining side of Croton River fled into the woods. Croton Police notified Ossining Police of the report.

4:23 PM: A resident of Grand Street reported that while visiting Dobbs Park, her cell phone was stolen. The matter is under investigation.
5:55 PM: A boat that was reported stolen on July 4, 2005 by resident of Montgomery, New York, who was anchored in the bay north of Croton Point Park, was recovered in Tarrytown, where it washed ashore. The matter remains under investigation.
July 6
7:52 PM: There was a report from Honey's Restaurant about someone trying to use false identification to purchase alcohol. Patrol responded and arrested a 16 year-old female Croton-on-Hudson resident for criminal impersonation in the 2nd degree, a misdemeanor. The individual was brought to Police HQ, later released to a parent and is due in Village Court on July 13, 2005 at 9:30 AM.

8:03 AM: There was a report from the Hudson National Golf Club of minor damage to the golf greens sometime overnight caused by a motor vehicle. The matter is under investigation.
1:35 PM: The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Recreation Department reported that sometime overnight someone had sprayed paint on the equipment shed on Manes field off Alexander Lane, behind CET. The matter is under investigation.

10:39 AM: An alarm company called to report a fire alarm activation at Skyview Apartments on North Riverside Avenue. Fire department and Patrol responded to find a false alarm originating on the third floor of the building.

June 20, 2005
2:28 PM: Patrol arrested an 18-year-old male from Croton-on-Hudson for criminal possession of a weapon, a knife, which is a 3rd degree misdemeanor. The individual was arraigned in Village Court and bail was set at $3,000. Later, the individual was transported to the Westchester County Jail.
4:17: There was a request from the MTA Police to assist them at the Croton Harmon Train Station with an individual who disorderly and was threatening the crew of the train. Patrol responded to assist while MTA police who arrested the individual in question.
4:22 PM: There was a report of large black snake under a car on Grand Street. Patrol responded and found snake under the hood of the vehicle. Police and a bystander removed snake and subsequently released it into the woods.

3:25 PM: There was a report by an employee of the Village Recreation Department that someone had written obscene graffiti on the newly-painted basketball court located on the corner of Benedict Boulevard and Young Avenue. The property is owned by the Church of the Good Shepard and maintained with agreement by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. Patrol responded, confirmed damage and assisted with the removal of the graffiti. The matter is under investigation.
4:12 PM: There was a report from a concerned citizen of a fully-loaded waste hauling truck entering Metro Enviro. The caller reported to police that truck was going in to the waste transfer site after hours of operation. Patrol responded and confirmed that the posted hours of operation for Metro Enviro are (HOURS OF OPERATION UPDATED ON 06/20/05 11:46 PM) Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM & Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM then witnessed the load enter the Metro Enviro site without incident. Police will also notify Village Code Official though no violation occurred.
June 15
8:38 PM: There were several reports of construction noise from residents on Maple Street. Patrol responded and found a worker installing a roof and had him call it a night. Normal contracting hours are set for Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

11:26 AM: There was a report of fire alarm activation at a home on Teatown Road. Police and Fire Departments responded and determined that the oil burner was the cause of the alarm and later helped homeowner ventilate the house.
7:48 PM: A home owner on Scenic Drive West called to report a fire on the stove. Police and Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire. There was no damage to the surroundings.
May 25
8:45 PM: A resident of Peekskill called to report that while she was parked at ET Cycle on North Riverside Avenue, someone tampered with her car while it was parked. The matter is under investigation.

7:51 AM: The owner of Oil City reported to police that someone had tampered with a the lock on a storage bin at the back of the building. The matter is under investigation.
10:22 AM: There was a report from a concerned citizen of a truck at Veteran’s Plaza with Maine license plates going into the Metro Enviro waste transfer station. Apparently, the caller did not believe that the truck had required permits to use the facility. Patrol responded, verified that the truck did have the proper Westchester County waste-hauling permit and allowed the load to enter the Metro Enviro site without incident.

6:20 PM: There was a report of stolen boy's bicycle from a residence on Grand Street. Police responded to get description of the stolen property and filed a report.
May 18
8:45 PM: The father of the owner of the bicycle stolen on May 17, 2005 reported that the bicycle had been recovered after his child saw someone else riding it around Farrington Road and Palmer Avenue. The matter has been referred to the youth officer.
May 19
5:16 PM: The parking enforcement officer on patrol reported a suspicious parking permit affixed to a vehicle that was parked in the upper parking area of the Harmon Station parking lot. Officers responded to further investigate. Later, at 8:07 PM, the operator returned to the vehicle where police spoke to operator and subsequently place the person in question under arrest for five counts of criminal possession of forged instrument, a second degree felony. The individual was arraigned by Judge Hoffman who set bail at $5,000. The individual was later transported to Westchester County Jail where he later posted bail and was released. He is due in Village court at 9:30 on May 25, 2005.

11:45 AM: There were several calls made to the Police Department about a low-flying helicopter around the Warren Road area. Police checked with officials at the Westchester County Airport and found nothing to be suspicious about the aircraft.
1:34 PM: A report of a bad check being passed at the Croton Point Exxon station was made to the Police Department. The matter is currently under investigation.
11:45 PM: There were reports of kids ringing doorbells at residences on Arlington Drive. Police responded and found no suspicious activity. Complaints did stop after the police investigation.

9:12 AM: A tree fell on Grand Street near the fire house. The Police Department and Department of Public Works responded to remove the tree and clear the road while traffic was temporarily closed in one lane.
7:30 PM: There was a report at Dobbs Park where a group of kids were seen throwing around a broken stroller. Police responded and had the kids clean up after themselves and issued a verbal warning.

9:40 PM: There was a report of a barking dog in the Beekman Avenue area. Police responded and confirmed the noise. Police found no one home at the residence and have since issued a dog noise ordinance summons that will be sent to the homeowner by mail.

6:15 AM: The Fire Department was dispatched to a Riverview Trail residence where the owner reported a deck fire resulting from a previously lit grill. The fire was extinguished safely.

2:18 PM: There was a report of a brush fire on Grand Street which was extinguished by the caller with a watering can.

11:29 AM: Police investigated a burglary at the Half Moon Bay Marina office. Cash and other items were stolen from the premises. The matter is currently under investigation.
