Why am I not a rock star?

Dear Friend,

A good question! You know, there is just no accounting for taste. However, the truth is, you may not be as talented or as good-looking as your Mom says you are. And then there is the whole age thing.

But if it makes you feel any better, there are certain rock stars – some of the guys for whom the term was actually invented – who can barely continue to lay claim to the title themselves. Poor Mick Jagger seems more like something out of Lord Of The Rings than a hot music guy. Keith Richards still has the magic, though, I guess because he always wore that I’ve-just-been-run-over-by-a-lawnmower charm.

It is OK; there are options. We have rapidly advancing technologies being applied to the field of Karaoke. The frightening rise in tribute bands means that there is often a scout at open mike night looking for the next David Gilmour. And there is always the opportunity to live through your children!
