Croton Blog: No Commuter Flooding Alert Saturday Despite Upbeat Report

Despite plans recently put in place to alert commuters of possible flood conditions at the Croton Harmon train station parking lot, Mother Nature “surprised” village decision-makers again. This time, a confluence of factors that included a powerful mid-Atlantic Nor’easter, a full moon and a high tide caused coastal flooding along the Hudson River.

So, on Saturday morning, October 7, 2006, twelve cars were caught in waters up to one-foot deep in flood-prone lot sections G and H.

Bad timing indeed.

It was just last Tuesday night during the village board meeting, Village Treasurer Abraham Zambrano made an extensive presentation to residents that outlined new alert procedures for parkers. He also cited some previous successes with timely lot restrictions and alternate parking plans for those commuters displaced by the closings.

Elsewhere in Croton, coastal floodwaters also submerged parts of Senasqua Park and Croton Landing. So it goes.
