I strongly recommend Sally Odland’s upcoming talk this week on why the era of relatively cheap oil is over.

The program is called, “What’s In The Pipeline? Peak Oil and Our Shifting Energy Future,” and will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 7:30 PM at the Croton Free Library.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Will $3 gallons of gas look cheap a year from now?

  • As oil companies hunt for oil in extreme environments like the melting Arctic and the Ultra Deep Continental Shelf, they frankly admit: the era of easy oil is over.

  • How long can we keep the oil flowing at the 85 million barrels/day that we need to sustain our current lifestyles?

  • And what energy choices must we make to successfully transition to a reduced petroleum economy?

Croton resident Sally Odland is a former geologist and a board member of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO-USA). Part of global network of scientists, ASPO-USA is a nonpartisan, proactive effort to encourage prudent energy management, constructive community transformation, and cooperative initiatives during an era of depleting petroleum resources.
