Croton Blog: Tell the Whole Story
To the editor,
In your article about Joe Streany I did not see any mention of his great VOLUNTEER efforts to the community of Croton. Joe has volunteered as a Little League coach, CYO basketball coach and high school varsity basketball coach. In the past he has also helped the varsity football team.
Let’s not forget his volunteer efforts as a fireman and first responder.
If you are going to post articles about the candidates why not tell the whole story?

This morning Streany put an illegal campaign banner on South Riverside on a dumpster illegally and suspiciously positioned on the former Croton Dodge Storage lot, now owned by the master of disregarding local signage laws, Mark Franzoso.

I would like to join Mr. Bell in recognizing Mr. Streany’s volunteerism to our community.
However, Mr. Streany is not running in the village election to be a fire chief or a sports coach. Rather, he decided to enter a contest for public trust—and implicitly agreed to the public scrutiny that comes with it.
With that said, it is entirely appropriate that Mr. Streany’s proven lack of judgment and the past ethical lapses he admitted to, be a relevant part of helping the residents of Croton choose a trustee on March 18, 2008.
Further, I can’t stop wondering why Mayor Greg Schmidt (R), Trustee Thomas Brennan (R), Trustee Sue Konig (R), and Trustee-candidate Joann Minett (R) would knowingly and publicly endorse a candidate like Mr. Streany—who admitted to and was fined for violating the public trust 25 times in his position at Metro North—just three years ago.
