Complaint Corner is the place to gripe about the things that irk you in everyday life: Village services, a surly shopkeeper, an unfair parking ticket, unnecessary noise, people who don’t play by the rules—you name it. Is it only me or are there others who are annoyed by the fact that the bridge to the entrance to Croton Gorge park has not been completed, more than 7 months past the originally scheduled completion date (12/07) and more than a year since it was originally closed (6/07). I frequently walk or ride my bike across the dam and I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that I have actually seen anyone working there. Calls to the Westchester and NY State Parks dept yield no information.
Another fine example of our tax dollars at work.

Jul 30, 2008 12:31 PM:Wrong beams or right beams delivered, more than two years to replace a small bridge is unacceptable. Why wasn’t a temporary bridge put up at the start of construction? If the county officials don’t know how, they should consult the military who does this all the time—according to what I saw of the TV version of the Iraqi invasion. —D. Shure

The head guy in the county that is overseeing the project is a customer of mine and I asked him the same question a month ago. He told me that the job was supposed to be done in December of last year but some custom steel beams were not made to proper specs. and they had to be redesigned and made again. He mentioned that they are shooting for this fall to finish. Public jobs are required to take the lowest bids, there you have it. My question is does anyone know what is in store for Quaker Bridge? I was told that it was going to be torn down and completely replaced. That would be horrible for such a beautiful piece of architecture and history. Anyone have any idea?
