Save on Car Insurance by Taking a Defensive Driving Course in Croton

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Recreation & Parks Department recently announced that it will be hosting a six-hour defensive driving program for licensed drivers through the New York State Safety program, taught by Jack Coxen.

Upon successful completion of this two-night course—set for both Wednesdays, February 28th & March 7th, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM—drivers can expect that four points will be reduced from the driving record point total. In addition, if the participant is listed as a principle operator on an auto insurance policy, a 10% discount on collision and liability will be applied for a full three years when the broker is presented with the course completion certificate.

Con Edison Offering Self-Service Meter Reading Online

A friend who lives in New York City recently told me of how he was drastically overcharged for his natural gas usage because of errors in both the estimated usage and the actual meeting reading.

So, while taking care of my own personal finances today, I logged on to Con Edison’s website to get my account balance. While there, I noticed a new feature on the site that enables customers to submit their own residential electric and gas meter readings. While always inclined to save money, I quickly grabbed a pen and paper, then set off to get my electric and gas readings. Upon return to my desk, I entered the information and clicked the “enter reading” button. Easy. Of course, I remain eager to see my next bill to see how this might work…

If you’re also motivated to enter your readings online, go to www.coned.com, click the “my account” button, choose your language preference, enter your account number, click the “submit a reading” link, click the “submit reading” link, read the easy instructions, enter your reading(s) and like I did, click the “submit reading” button. If all goes well, your confirmation page will affirm your efforts and reward you with a more accurate bill next month.

Croton Gas Prices Jump Again For Some Reason...

With gasoline prices for ALL grades now above $3.00 per gallon at every service station in Croton-on-Hudson, the time to try and save a few pennies at the pump may well be very appealing to some motorists now. At Croton’s own Exxon (news) station, the average price for gasoline is $3.11.

So, just yesterday, the Lunch Lady sent me this link to a site within MSN Autos that finds the least expensive gas prices relative to zip code. After a quick search this morining, I found gas for $2.75 at the Getty station in Ossining. The only drawback—the link is only viewable if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Give to Schools While You Get at Target

moneysaver.gif

A couple of weeks ago Lunch Lady ran into Mrs. Helpful at the brand-new Target in Mt. Kisco. A few days later, our whole family went back. I bought a bunch of new clothes for work. The selection and quality was very nice and I'd rate Target as 100 times better than Wal-Mart.

Healthy Choices....

moneysaver.gif

The Lunch Lady and I went out to the CrotonGlog on Saturday night and had a really great time visiting with our friends and dancing the night away to live music in front of a roaring fireplace. Thank you very much AKA and MA!

With that said, we stayed up pretty late and woke up late too. So, when it came time Sunday afternoon to go to the store, I was feeling a little less than enthusiastic... I had already decided that I wouldn't be going to the "Disneyworld" that is the new Stop & Shop. So around 6:30, I went over to Shop Rite.

CHHS Choral Club Coupon Booklet

moneysaver.gif

About two weeks ago, a young woman from Croton Harmon High School knocked on our door as she was selling coupon books to support the CHHS Choral Club. I bought a book for $20.00.

Over the weekend, I decided to feature this coupon book in my column. So, I called Mike Weinstein at CHHS to ask him for information on how our readers could order one for their families. He told me that the fundraiser will help to fund the Choral Club's end-of-year trip and that half of the proceeds ($10.00) go directly towards fundraising.
